Aquatic therapy & rehabilitation
What is Aqua Aerobics?
Aqua aerobics emphasizes on increasing strength and cardiovascular levels by means of water resistance.
Why Aquatic Therapy?
- The heat of the water can help to decrease spasticity and pain;
- The heat of the water helps with the relaxation of connective tissue leading to the stretching of the muscles to increase mobility;
- The decrease in swelling can be achieved through the buoyancy and hydrostatic pressure of the water;
- The buoyancy of the water also helps to decrease compression forces in joints to relieve the pain;
- Functional skills could be safely practiced in and out of the water (however in water it is more advantageous due to the buoyancy), and
- It helps for stress reduction and is beneficial for relaxation especially for pregnant women.
Aquatic therapy can be performed individually or in group sessions whereas aqua aerobics will only be presented in group sessions.
The Biokineticist will be present in the water to physically demonstrate and assist with the execution of the exercises.
Fitness Assessment
We are registered on the Vitality wellness network and can perform Vitality fitness assessments.
These tests will provide you with an understanding of your current cardiovascular fitness levels as well as your strength and flexibility. It will also provide feedback regarding the areas which could be improved upon in order to achieve optimum wellness.
7500 Vitality Points could be earned on completion of the fitness assessment.
We are also hosting Wellness days throughout the year. If you are registered on our system you will receive a reminder by email informing you in advance of the next Wellness day at our Carien Smith Biokineticist. During the wellness day, you could virtually complete the full spectrum of “Vitality assessments” under one roof.
Vitality “Wellness Days” provide a convenient experience by allowing members to make all bookings via one call centre and to be able to complete all three assessments during a single visit.
